The first European edition of the Globe Soccer Awards
Cala di volpe, Sardinia 2024
On May 28 and 29, the shimmering shores of the Costa Smeralda hosted the prestigious KAFD Globe Soccer Awards in Europe for the first time. This event, produced by Filmmaster, took place in the splendid setting of the Hotel Cala di Volpe and saw the participation of the greatest stars of international football. The ceremony on May 28 inaugurated the continental series of the Globe Soccer Awards, an initiative organized in collaboration with the Dubai Sports Council and part of the "Road to Dubai" journey. The winners of the main categories of the European edition were automatically nominated to participate in the global event at the end of the year in the United Arab Emirates. The evening celebrated excellence in European football, awarding categories such as Best Player, Best Men's Club, Best Women's Club, and Best Coach, among others. The initial selection of finalists was determined by fan votes, while the final decision was entrusted to a stellar jury composed of former players, active and retired coaches, club presidents and CEOs, referees, and agents. The event honored extraordinary achievements and contributions in the world of football, offering an unforgettable evening of celebrations and recognition.
In addition to the awards ceremony enriched by the La Liga Awards, the event hosted the Globe Soccer Forum presented by Serie A, where crucial football topics were discussed. The first session featured Gabriele Gravina, president of FIGC, Quico Catalan, Vice President of La Liga, and Luigi De Siervo, CEO of Serie A, who talked about financial sustainability, infrastructure, and threats to traditional revenue sources. A highlight was the interview with Nasser Al-Khelaifi, president of ECA and PSG, who addressed issues such as the expanding football calendar and the pursuit of increased revenue. The final session saw Ferran Soriano, CEO of City Football Group, discuss multi-club ownership alongside Lina Souloukou, CEO of AS Roma, and Mario Malavè, Co-CEO of Mercury/13. This fusion of awards and discussions created a unique event focused on the best of football and strategies for its future, offering valuable and innovative insights to tackle the sector's challenges.
