The Waterstone is Intesa Sanpaolo's pavilion for Expo Milano 2015, designed to promote themes of sustainable and responsible development. Its iconic shape, inspired by three large stones with four cascading waterfalls, symbolizes a space for knowledge, entertainment, and interaction, deepening the Expo theme, "Feeding the Planet." The interior, recalling the structure of a barn, is constructed in wood and spans two levels. The pavilion’s exterior is clad with 6,600 white shingles, creating a luminous effect through light-filtering gaps and an LED system for stunning night-time illumination. More than a physical space, The Waterstone is designed as an open and participatory environment where the content comes to life through the contributions of visitors, offering them the opportunity to take on a central role.
The space is distributed across two levels
Ground Floor: Open to visitors, it includes the innovative branch, the multimedia installation, and the painting Officine di Porta Romana by Umberto Boccioni (1909-1910), depicting the Bastioni di Porta Romana area. The space is also equipped for hosting performances, conferences, and events.
Upper Floor: A reserved area with lounge spaces and meeting rooms for businesses, institutional gatherings, and the bank’s guests.
