Barilla
Young & Rubicam Italy
Bronze Cannes Lions 1986
The Barilla commercial is set on a foggy day, where a man gets off a train at Milan's central station and appears to be waiting for someone. After an unanswered phone call, he exits and finds his car. During the journey home, the cold atmosphere transforms into a sunny, rural landscape. Upon arriving home, he heads to the kitchen where Barilla products are displayed. He grabs a package of spaghetti, seemingly intending to cook it, but perhaps drawn by voices, he enters another room where a large group of friends, along with his wife, await him with a warm embrace. However, he still holds the package of spaghetti behind his back, and while no one sees, he makes the gesture of putting the entire box in his mouth, a clear signal to his wife, who smiles knowingly at the other end of the room.
The curiosity of this spot lies in its ending, which had not been defined beforehand and was found by the actor improvising in a simple and natural way. This contributed to Filmmaster winning the bronze at the Cannes Lions in 1986.
